PROCOAL OR CON-COAL?

Charcoal? You read the title right. Charcoal is a wonder commodity merely a product of coconuts, and this particular product I'm about to rave about is made of a coconut shell. How many teeth whitening ads have you seen and just disregard them? Almost always right? Well, I kid you not - this isn't that 'miracle product which whitens your teeth completely in 24 hours' because quite frankly, we all know it doesn't happen overnight.

This tiny pot of gold (not literally) carries an extremely fine, black powder which is 100% activated coconut shell charcoal by PROCOAL. It's not the stuff you use in your barbecues  It doesn't smell like coconut, and nor does it look like coconut - it's just a jet black powder. You may be thinking, "how is this black powder going to whiten my teeth, it's black." The charcoal is 'activated' which means that it's been heated to extremely high temperatures to remove the harmful impurities. The activated charcoal removes toxins to aid teeth whitening.
I bought my pot off Amazon for £8.99 (it was discounted) but usually sells for £19.99.
The official website here has it on sale with a mega £10 off, discounting it to £9.99.

So how do you use it?

  1. Brush your teeth twice a day as normal (morning and evening) and follow these steps after doing so.
  2. Wet your toothbrush (one that's different to your regular toothbrush) and squeeze the excess water out.
  3. Scoop about a pea-sized amount of product (with a little spoon) and place into the palm of your hand, scoop the product up using your toothbrush.
  4. Brush your teeth with the charcoal for approx. 2 minutes and spit it out.
  5. Rinse your mouth and do not use mouthwash or brush your teeth again afterwards.

PROS

  • It actually works slowly but surely. The shade change isn't drastic but it's definitely gradual.
  • It's natural and vegan. We're not all fans of applying harsh chemicals to our skin, so why to our teeth?
  • It's cheap. Due to it's natural, abundant nature and low-cost production - happy pockets!
  • There is a fair amount of product in the pot for the amount you pay
  • It's not a long process - you know how Crest whitening strips have to be left on or those UV whitening things have to be left on for a certain period of time, this charcoal doesn't need intensive labour.
  • It's tasteless!
CONS
  • The process of actually getting the product out of the tin is a hassle unless you use a small spoon to scoop the contents out.
  • The product feels gritty in your mouth if you pause brushing your teeth and clench your jaw.
  • Increases teeth sensitivity slightly.
  • Your mouth will be black. Fully black. It looks gross.
I can definitely say that the pros outweigh the cons, but I can't say that the cons don't matter either. I hope you guys found this post helpful.
